Arizona Immigration Issues – My Take On It

For the last several weeks we have been hearing about the immigration issues down in Arizona.  Mexican citizens are illegally crossing the United States boarders and establishing lives as illegal aliens.

What is to be done about this issue?  What should the American government do to handle all the Mexican citizens crossing into American soil?  Here is my take on it.

Just like our federal government structure, I can see issues on both sides of the bus here.  I can see where the United States ( or Arizona at least) wants all illegal immigrants out of the US, and I can also see how these Mexican citizens that are crossing over to US want to stay here because this is where their lives are.  However, there is a cross fire here between what is the right thing to do and what the law says we should do.

The first issue at hand is Arizona taking matters into their own hands.  We all know that if we sit around and wait for the federal government to fix an issue, we will all be in our graves.  Arizona asked repeatedly for the federal government to do something about this immigration issue.  It’s been going on for years.  Arizona got sick and tired of waiting around and finally did something about it.  And what happened when Arizona decided to get involved?  The federal government decided to pay a little more attention didn’t they?  Why do such extreme measures have to be taken for the federal government to listen?  What are your thoughts on that?  A George Washington University Law Professor said that immigration issues are a federal matter and not a state matter.

The second issue here is whether or not illegal Mexican citizens should be able to stay in America or be deported back to Mexico.  Listen…….American citizens don’t necessarily agree with all the laws the federal government has put in place but guess what, those laws are what allow us to drive down the street each day in an orderly fashion.  These laws allow us to defend our rights when they have been threatened.  These laws allow us to start over with a clean slate when we go bankrupt.  These laws are what have created the number one economy on this earth.  The laws are the laws.  Just because you came to America illegally 20 years ago and your business is here and your family is here, doesn’t mean your legally allowed to be here.  Would I personally kick you out of the US?  No not at all.  I would invite you in for dinner so you felt welcomed and wanted, but I don’t make the laws.

The third issue I see is whether or not local Arizona police forces and boarder patrol can ask illegal Mexican citizens for their paper work without racial profiling.  Let me ask you a simple question.  What ethnicity of people come from Mexico?  The Mexican ethnicity comes from Mexico.  Your not going to walk down the streets in Arizona and ask a 6’3 blue eyed blond haired white Caucasian man for his papers.  The force would be at it for the next 50 years if that’s how it was done.  I am the farthest from a racial person you will ever know, but how do we expect the job to ever get done, whatever job that may be, if the force cannot pick and choose who they ask regrading legal citizenship?

Lastly, what are the numbers as far as what these illegal Mexican citizens are contributing to our nations economy?  They earn money, they spend money, they create new markets, they are the hardest working people on this planet.  So what is the right thing to do?  If the numbers support positive by-products of having illegal Mexican citizens in the US, what is going to happen to productivity and our economy?

I firmly believe that our federal government system is broken.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my country and believe that our form of government has lasted us a very long time and has done us very well.  Our founding fathers were brilliant at the time with what they had to work with.  Times are changing and hybrid models need to be explored.
